Centromere:

  1. Each and every chromosome that is visible in dividing cells has the centromere on the sides of which disc-shaped structures are called kinetochores.
  2. Centromere holds two chromatids of a chromosome.
  3. Based on the position of the centromere, the chromosomes can be classified into four types.
  4. The four types are metacentric, sub-metacentric, acrocentric, and telocentric chromosomes.
  5. The position of the centromere in the telocentric chromosome is terminal position.
