Question

What is the structure of cytokinins?

Open in App
Solution

Cytokinins:

  1. Cytokinins are a group of growth regulators for plants that are largely responsible for the cellular division in the root and shoot systems of plants.
  2. This hormone aids in promoting cell proliferation, growth, and differentiation as well as apical dominance, leaf senescence, and axillary bud development.
  3. All of the complex plants, bacteria, mosses, and fungi contain these hormones in large quantities.
  4. Typically, cytokinins are produced in the roots and then go through the xylem to other regions of the plant, such as fruits, seeds, and young leaves, where plant growth is still occurring.
  5. By maintaining the production of proteins required for mitosis, cytokinins aid in enhancing cellular division.
