Antidiuretic hormone (ADH):

  1. Antidiuretic hormone is also known as Vasopressin.
  2. It is a naturally occurring hormone that helps in controlling various physical processes & several life-threatening conditions, including bleeding abnormalities and septic shocks.
  3. The low levels of antidiuretic hormone in blood cells could result in Diabetes insipidus, Primary polydipsia, and Damage to the hypothalamus or pituitary gland.
  4. A lot of water is excreted by the kidneys, which then increases urine volume and lowers blood pressure.
  5. Symptoms of increased Antidiuretic hormone include- brain cancer, bladder cancer, pancreatic cancer, lung cancer, blood cancer, lymphoma, emphysema, tuberculosis, cystic fibrosis, etc.
  6. Thus, the antidiuretic hormone increases the body fluid volume.

ADH release is triggered by:

  1. Decrease in the volume of blood.
  2. Increase in the osmolality i.e. count of dissolved particles in the blood.
