Deoxygenated blood is returned to the heart from the organs via a type of blood vessel called a vein.
The pulmonary vein, which transports oxygenated blood from the lungs to the heart, is one exception.
Inferior vena cava (IVC):
The inferior vena cava carries the deoxygenated blood from the lower and middle bodies into the right atrium of the heart.
It is the biggest vein.
The IVC passes through the central tendon of the diaphragm at the T8 (Thoracic vertebrae) vertebral level and is situated along the right anterolateral portion of the vertebral column.
