  4. Ecosystem can be natural such as forest, pond, as well as mam made, such as aquarium.

A pond can be considered an ecosystem as:

  1. It consists of both biotic and abiotic components.
  2. The biotic components in a pond are aquatic plants, fishes, microbes and other organisms.
  3. The abiotic components are water, air, sunlight.
  4. The fishes survive on oxygen dissolved in the water.
  5. They feed upon aquatic plants and microbes consume all the dead matter cleaning the water all by itself.
  6. Thus, a pond is a self sustaining ecosystem.
