Solution

Following reaction takes places in tube,

C+CO22CO
The volumes are measured under the same conditions. They must be in the whole number ratio accroding to Dalton's law
Volume of mixture of CO and CO2 = 1L

Let volume of CO2 in mixture = x

Volume of CO formed from the reaction = 2 x
Volume of CO before the reaction = 1 – x
After the reaction , the mixture does not contain CO2
Total volume of CO after reaction =(1x)+2x=1+x=1.6
x = 0.6 L
