Question

1 mole of MnO4 will oxidise x6 moles of ferric oxalate in acidic medium, x is _________.

Open in App
Solution

In acidic medium,
MnO4Mn+2

It will oxidise only oxalate (C2O24) as ferric is already in the highest oxidised state.

The reaction is as follows:
Fe2(C2O4)32Fe3++3C2O24

At equivalent point, both reactant have same number of equivalents.

So, one mole of MnO4 will oxidise 56 moles of ferric oxalate.

Therefore, the value of x is 5.
