Addition of H2O to alkene is a Markovnikov addition reaction.

In Markovnikov's addition, negative part of the addendum (adding molecule) gets attached to that doubly bonded C which posses lesser number of hydrogen atoms.

In 1-phenylpropene, the double bond attacks the H+ ion and form a secondary phenyl cation. Phenyl carbocation is more stable due to the resonance effect with benzene ring. Now the OH gets added to the carbocation to form 1-phenylpropan-1-ol
