Generally, the bond energy decreases down the group due to increase in the size of atoms.But the bond energy of F-F bond is less than Cl-Cl bond due to small size of fluorine.The F-F bond length is so short that the lone pairs of electrons on the

fluorine atoms repel each other and weakens the F-F bond.Thus, Cl2 has higher bond energy.
