  • Used tea leaves when disposed into the sink absorb water and swell. ​

  • These swollen tea leaves choke the drainpipes. ​

  • Moreover, it blocks the free flow of oxygen in the pipes and hampers the degradation process of organic wastes in the drainpipes.

  • Fats and cooking oil get hard after they are cooled down. So, by throwing these down the drain would block the drainpipe.​

  • The oil thrown in open drains might clog the pores in the soil and reduce its efficiency to filter water and also affect marine life.
