Question

10 grams of caco3 contains how many moles of oxygen

Open in App
Solution

Dear student,

Sorry for the above answer. In the question its not specified whether it is oxygen atoms or oxygen molecules. So I assumed it to be oxygen atoms. Thats why answer I got is different from the answer in the book.

Now lets solve the question. Its asked to find no.of moles of oxygen in 10 grams of caco3.

Molar mass of CaCO3 = 40 + 12 + 16 x 3 = 100

Moles of CaCO3 in 10 gram of CaCO3 = fraction numerator mass space over denominator molecular space mass end fraction space space equals space fraction numerator 10 space over denominator 100 space end fraction space equals space 0.1 space moles

One mole of CaCO3 contain 3 mols of oxygen atoms or 3 over 2=1.5 moles of oxygen molecules. Since oxygen is diatomic.

That is one mole of CaCO3 contains 1.5 moles of Oxygen
rightwards double arrow 0.1 moles of CaCO3 will contain = = 0.1 X 1.5 = 0.15 moles of Oxygen

Sorry for the mistake occured. (Also if not specified as atoms always consider oxygen as O2)
