Question

11. An object of mass 200kg is accelerated uniformly from a velocity of 10m-s to 20m-s in two seconds. Calculate: a) initial momentum b) final momentum of the body c) Magnitude of the force exerted on the object. d) Does momentum have direction? If yes, how is it specified? e) Name two factors on which change of momentum depends.

Solution

Dear Student ,

m = 200 kg

u = 20 m/s

v = 30 m/s

t = 2 s

1) Initial momentum, pi = mu = 200*20 = 4000 kg. m/s

2) Final momentum, pf = mv = 200*30 = 6000 kg. m/s

3) Force = pf - pi / t

= 6000 - 4000 / 2

= 1000 N

(d) yes the moemntum have direction .It is directed as the the direction of the body .

(e) Momentum depends on the mass and velocity .
