Question

14.Ends of major axis (0--/5 ), ends of minor axis (± 1,0)

Open in App
Solution

The given ends of major axis (0,± 5 ) and ends of minor axis is (±1,0) (1)

Since the ends of major axis are on the y axis, so the equation of the ellipse is represented as x 2 b 2 + y 2 a 2 =1 , where y is the major axis.

Ends of major axis are represented as ( 0,±a ) and ends of minor axis are ( ±b,0 ) (2)

Compare equation (1) and (2),

a= 5 ,b=1

Hence, the equation of ellipse is x 2 1 2 + y 2 ( 5 ) 2 =1

Thus, the equation of ellipse with ends of major axis (0,± 5 ) and ends of minor axis is (±1,0) is x 2 1 + y 2 5 =1 .
