Question

Find the equation for the ellipse that satisfies the given conditions,
Ends of major axis (0,±5), ends of minor axis

Open in App
Solution

Ends of major axis (0,±6) lies on y - axis .
So the equation of ellipse in standard form is,
x2b2+y2a2=1
now ends of major axis (0,±a) is (0,±5)
a=5
Ends of minor axis (±b,0)is(±1,0) b=1
Thus equation of required ellipse is,
x21+y25=1
