Solution

Solvents: A wide group of chemical compounds used to dissolve or dilute other chemicals or materials. Solvents are employed as chemical intermediates, fuels, and components in a variety of products.

  • Three solvents and their uses:
  1. Oxygenated solvents: The oxygen molecule is present in an oxygenated solvent, which has high solvency and low toxicity. Paints, inks, medicines, fragrances, adhesives, cosmetics, detergents, and food processing all employ these solvents.
  2. Hydrocarbon solvents: Benzene, kerosene, and xylene are hydrocarbon solvents. These hydrocarbon solvents are mostly used for cleaning and dissolving.
  3. Halogenated solvents: Halogenated solvents are volatile organic compounds that contain a hydrocarbon chain or a single hydrocarbon that has one or more chlorine or bromine atoms replaced in it. The majority of these compounds are used in paints and other goods as degreasers and solvents.
