217. A student found that bad odours were coming out of his younger brother’s mouth. He advised his younger brother not to eat sweet–tasting foods and chocolates. He also told him to brush his teeth two times everyday, in the morning and at night after dinner using fluoride toothpaste.

(a) Why is bad odour produced in our mouth after eating sweet – tasting foods and chocolates?

  • Improper oral hygiene leads to formation of massive amounts of bacteria under the gum lines, trapped in plaque pockets and even growing openly in clusters on the tongue.
  • The more bacterial build up in your mouth, the worse the after taste will be when introducing sugar to your mouth and therefore that is evolved in form of bad odour after lapse of time
