Solve: 2x+y=−4,3y=5x−1
By Substitution method
We have, 2x+y=−4,3y=5x−1
Solving the first equation, we have
2x+y=−4
⇒y=−4−2x……(i)
On Substituting the above value in second equation, we get
3(−4−2x)=5x−1
⇒−12−6x=5x−1
⇒−12+1=5x+6x
⇒−11=11x
∴x=−1
On putting the value of x in eq(i), we get
y=−4−2×−1
∴y=−4+2=−2
Hence, x=−1,y=−2 are the solutions of the given equations.
