Solution

The correct option is C 50 years
Let the present ages of father and son be x and y respectively
3 years ago, sum of their ages was 40
(x3)+(y3)=40
x+y=40+3+3
x+y=46 which is the sum of their present ages
After 2 years, each of their ages will increase by 2 i.e. (x+2),(y+2)
Now, (x+2)+(y+2)=(x+y)+2+2=46+4=50.
(x+2)+(y+2)=50
Hence, after 2 years sum of their ages will be 50.
