Solution

  • Carbon monoxide (CO) is produced when an insufficient amount of oxygen is present for combustion.
  • For example, in a room where all the doors and windows are closed, burning of coal will deplete oxygen levels and when sufficient oxygen is not available, Carbon monoxide will be formed.
  • When a person in the room, breathes this oxygen-deficient air, more Carbon monoxide will reach his bloodstream through his lungs.
  • At high levels of Carbon monoxide, the damage will occur to vital organs like the brain and heart.
  • This will cause suffocation, dizziness, unconsciousness, and in some cases death of the person.
  • Therefore, it is advised not to sleep in a closed room where coal is burnt in chulhas.
