Solution

Part 1: Chemical Reaction

A chemical reaction may take place when two or more reactants come in contact with one another resulting in the formation of new substances called products accompanied by the transfer of energy among them.

Part 2: Word Equation

  • A chemical equation that represents a chemical reaction briefly in words is called a word equation.
  • A word equation gives the names of the substance involved in a reaction. For example:
    Hydrogen + Oxygen→ Water

begin mathsize 14px style stack 2 H subscript 2 space plus space O subscript 2 space yields 2 H subscript 2 O with Hydrogen space space Oxygen space space space Water below end style

  • This would represent a word equation.
  • Hydrogen and oxygen are the reactants as they are on the left-hand side of the arrow, and water is the product as it is on the right-hand side of the arrow.
