The elements are broadly divided into four classes based on their properties-

• Elements are classified as Metals, non-metals and metalloids
• Metals are malleable, ductile and conducts electricity. For example, Iron(Fe), Copper(Cu)
• Non-metals are nonmalleable or ductile and it does not conduct electricity. For example, Carbon(C), oxygen(O).
• Metalloids are the elements that show properties of both metals and nonmetals. For example, Boron(B), silicon(Si)
• These classes of elements have unique properties.
