40g MgO dissolves in H2O to form 200 ml of solution, if density of solution is 1.5g/ml. Calculate Mole fractions of solute and solvents.

Open in App
Solution

MgO is solute & H2O is solvent weight of solvte (WA)=40g
Density of solution =1.5g/ml volume of solution =200mL
weight of solution = Density × volume
=1.5×200
=300g
Weight of solvent (WB)= wt of soln -wt of. solute
=30040=260
nA=weightofsolutemolecularweightofsolute nB=weightofsolventmolecularwtofsolvent
nA=4040=1 nB=26018=14.44
xA=nAnA+nB xB=nBnA+nB
=11+14.44 =14.441+14.44
xA=0.0647 xB=0.9353
