  • The chemical reaction in which the two reactants (compounds) exchange their respective radicals forming a new compounds is called double decomposition reaction.
  • In a double displacement reaction, if one of the products formed is insoluble solid then it is called precipitation reaction. The insoluble solid is called precipitate.

Example: NaCl + AgNO3 → NaNO3 + AgCl ⤓

Here AgCl is forming precipitate.
