Solution

Let the present age of son = x yrsLet the present age of father = y yrsAFTER 5 YEARS :son's age =x+5 yrsFather's age = y+5 yrsNow, y + 5 = 3x+5y+5 = 3x+153x - y =-10 .....1BEFORE 5 YEARS :son's age =x-5 yrsFather's age = y-5 yrsy-5 = 7x-5y-5 = 7x - 357x - y = 30 ......2Subtracting1 from 2, we get4x = 40x = 10Put x = 10 in 1, we get30 - y = -10y = 40So, present age of son = 10 yrsPresent age of father = 40 yrs
