Solution

Leaves of submerged aquatic plants contain wax coating because-

  • Aquatic plants spend the majority of their time immersed in water, their leaves are wide in order to capture more sunlight.
  • The waxy coating present on leaves of hydrophytes prevents wetting and clogging of stomata and extra water intake.
  • As a result, they developed a waxy coating on their leaves to limit sap loss owing to osmosis.
  • Therefore, leaves of submerged aquatic plants contain wax coating.
