Given $8 \frac{1}{4} m$ of ribbon is cut from a piece of $10 m$ long.
We know that $I m p r o p e r f r a c t i o n = \frac{N u m b e r \times D e n o m i n a t o r + N u m e r a t o r}{D e n o m i n a t o r}$
The improper fraction is
$8 \frac{1}{4} = \frac{8 \times 4 + 1}{4} = \frac{32 + 1}{4} = \frac{33}{4}$
Hence, $\frac{33}{4} m$ of ribbon is cut from a piece of $10 m$ long.
To find the remaining ribbon
The remaining ribbon $=$ Complete ribbon $-$ Cut of part of ribbon
$= 10 - \frac{33}{4} = \frac{10 \times 4 - 33}{4} = \frac{40 - 33}{4} = \frac{7}{4}$
Hence, the remaining part of ribbon is $\frac{7}{4} m$
