9.4g of Magnesium carbonate on heating gave 4.4g of Carbon dioxide and 5.0g of Magnesium oxide. Show that these observations are in agreement with the law of conservation of mass.

The law of conservation of mass states that the total sum of reactants is equal to the total sum of products.

Step 2: Determining the reactants and the products

From the given data, 9.4g of Magnesium carbonate (MgCO3) on heating gave 4.4g of Carbon dioxide CO2 and 5.0g of Magnesium oxide MgO. So,

Reactant = 9.4g of Magnesium carbonate

Products = 4.4g of Carbon dioxide and 5.0g of Magnesium oxide

Step 3: Applying the law of conservation of mass

The total sum of reactants = 9.4g

The total sum of products = 4.4g+5g=9.4g

From the above, we can conclude that the total sum of reactants is equal to the total sum of products.

Hence it is proved that the results are in agreement with the law of conservation of mass.
