Open in App
Solution

  • Ethanol (CH3CH2OH) is oxidized in the presence of Potassium dichromate (K2Cr2O7) or Potassium permanganate (KMnO4) to Ethanoic acid (CH3COOH).
  • The reaction involved is: CH3CH2OHEthanolK2Cr2O7CH3COOHEthanoicacid
  • But Ethanol cannot be converted to Methanoic acid (HCOOH).
