Question

A 50 gm ball collides with another ball of mass 150 gm. moving in its direction of motion, After the collision, the two balls move at an angle 30 with their initial direction. A ratio of their velocities after the collision is:

Open in App
Solution

mass of each ball=50g=50/1000=0.05kg
initial velocity =16m/s

Initial momentum =P1=mu
=16x0.05
=0.8kgm/s

After collision, the direction of velocity of each ball is reversed on rebounding.

Final momentum =P2
=m(v)
=0.05x(16)
=0.8kgm/s

Impulse imparted= Change in momentum of each ball

=0.8(0.8)

=0.16kgm/s

Impulse imparted due to one ball after collision on another would be 0.16kgm/s
