Shaft diameter, d = 50 mm

Torque,T=1300 N.m=13×105 Nmm

Allowable shear strength,

τ=60 N/mm2

If the weld size t, the torque transmission capacity of the weld at the throat is given by

T=(0.707t)×πd22τ

t=2T0.707πd2τ=2×1300×1030.707×π×502×60

= 7.8 mm, say 8 mm
