Question

A 60 μF capacitor is connected to a 110 V, 60 Hz ac supply. Determine the rms value of the current in the circuit.

Open in App
Solution

Given: A 60μF capacitor is connected to a 110V, 60 Hz ac supply.

The capacitive reactance of a circuit is given as,

X C = 1 ωC = 1 2πfC

Where, the supply frequency is f and the capacitance is C.

The rms current is given as,

I= V X C =V×2πfC

Where, the supply voltage is V.

By substituting the values in the above equation, we get

I=110×2π( 60 )( 60× 10 6 ) =2.49A

Thus, the value of rms current in the circuit is 2.49 A.
