Question

A balloon collapses when air is removed from it. Explain.

Open in App
Solution

ATMOSPHERIC PRESSURE:-

  1. The pressure exerted (thrust exerted on one unit area) by the air at any point on the earth is called atmospheric pressure at that point.
  2. When air is removed from the balloon, the pressure inside the balloon (which was due to air in it) is much less than the atmospheric pressure outside and hence the balloon collapses.
