A body has a mass of 25 kg.Calculate its weight in SI system of units.

Open in App
Solution

Step 1:

Given,

Mass = 25 kg.

Step 2:

To find the value of weight of the body

Weight of a body is defined as the force with which a body is attracted or pulled towards the centre of the earth.

For a freely falling body of mass ‘m’ in kg, the force of gravity F in newton acting on it is given by:

F= m × g

where ‘g’ is the acceleration due to gravity at a place and its value is taken as 9.8 m s-2.

When a body is at rest on earth's surface, the same force will pull it down onto earth and this is the force we call its weight and is given by:

Weight of a body = m × g.

Weight of a body = 25 kg × 9.8 m s-2.

=245 N.

Hence, the weight of the body is 245 N.
