Body 1, initial velocity =u,
Final velocity =u/4
Body 2, initial velocity =0
Final velocity v
and mass =m
So, 1×u+0=1×u4+mv [conservation of momentum]
u=u4+mv .......... (1)
Again 12×1×u2+0=121(u4)2+12mv2 [conservation of KE]
or, u22=u232+12mv2
or, 15u2=16mv2 ........... (2)
Solving equation (1) & (2) we get,
m = 0.8 kg
