Question

A body of mass 50kg has momentum of 3000kgms-1. Calculate:

  1. The velocity of the body.
  2. The kinetic energy of the body.

Open in App
Solution

Step 1: Given data

Mass of the body m=50kg

Momentum P=3000kgms-1

Velocity v=?

Step 2:

Par (1): Calculation

Momentum=mass×velocityP=mvv=Pm.........(a)

v=3000kgms-150kgv=60ms-1

Hence, velocity is 60ms-1.

Par (1): Calculation

According to the formula of kinetic energy,

Kineticenergy=12×mass×velocity2K=12mv2.......(b)

On, putting all the values in equation (b), we get

K=12×50kg×60ms-12K=12×50×60×60=90,000J

Hence, the kinetic energy of the body is 90,000J.
