Question

A body of mass 5kg moves along the x axis with a velocity of 2 m/s.A second body of mass 10kg moves along the y axis with a velocity of root 3 m/s.They collide at th origin and stick together.Calculate
1)The final vvelocity of the combined mass after the collison.

2)The amount of heat libeated in the collision

Solution

As momentum is conserved

V=m1v1+m2v2
=5*2+10*√3
=10+10√3
=27.1 m/s

Heat=1/2mv2
=1/2*(M1+M2)V2
= 1/2*15*27.1*27.1
=5508.05joule
