Question

A bonded metal strain gauge has the following specifications
Gauge factor =2.0

Unstrained Resistance =100 Ω

Maximum tensile and compressive strain =100 microstrain

Two strain gauges, with the specifications given above mounted on a structural memebr in a push - pull configuration are connected in a bridge along with two standard resistances, whose output is fed to a differential amplifier using two buffers as shown in the figure. The magnitude of the output voltage Vo per unit microstrain is ___ mV.

Solution

The correct option is D 1
Since the output of the bridge circuit is first fed to the buffer amplifier hence their is no loading on output.

So, output off differential amplifier is given by,

Vo=100RR(V1V2)=100(V1V2)

V1=Vi×[RR+R]=Vi2

V2=Vi×[RΔRRΔR+R+ΔR]=Vi×RΔR2R

=Vi2[1ΔRR]=Vi2[1(G×ε)]

V0=100[Vi2Vi2(1G×ε)]

=100(Vi2×G×ε)=100×10×2×1×1062=1 mV
