Question

A bridge circuit has two fixed resistor and two strain gauges, all of which have a value of 120Ω. The gauge factor is 2.04 and strain applied to twin strain gauges, one in tension & the other in compression is 165×106. The battery current is 50mA. If the galvanometer connected to output terminals reads 100 μV per scale division and if 1/10th of a division can be read with confidence then sensitivity in (μV/μ strain) is

Solution

The correct option is C 1.53

Supply voltage(ei)=120×50(mA)
=6V

ΔRR=Gfε=2.04×165×106

=3.366×104

eo=ei2ΔR/R(4+(2ΔR/R))

=62×3.366×104(4+(2×3.366×104))

e0=0.252(mV)

sensitivity=e0strain

=0.252(mV)165×106(strain)

=0.252165(mVμ strain)

=1.527(μVμ strain)
