Using momentum conservation for inelastic collision,

$m_1{u}_1+m_2{u}_2=V(m_1+m_2)$

But $m_1=x,m_2=z,u_1=y,u_2=0,V=?$

$\Rightarrow x\times y+z\times 0=(x+z)\times V$

$\Rightarrow V=\frac{xy}{x+z}$.
