A bullet with velocity of 10 ms​​​​​-2 is brought to rest after penitrating a wooden plank of 4cm thickness. Calculate the retardation of the bullet.

Stopping distance S=4cm =0. 04m

​​​​​​initial velocity =10 m/s
final velocity =0 (since object stops)


we know
v^2-u^2=2aS

so a= u^2/2s
= 10*10/2*.04
=100/0.08
=1250 m/s^2 is the amont of retardation
