Solution

The correct option is A 31 Hz
Velocity of car A vA=10m/s and velocity of car B vB=20m/s
Original frequency of car A f=500Hz
Let fd and f′′ be the apparent frequencies (heard by person in car B) coming directly and after reflection from the hill respectively.
Doppler effect when observer (B) moves towards the moving source (A):
fd=f[vsound+vobservervsound+vsource] =500[340+20340+10]=514.28Hz

Doppler effect when source (A) moves towards the stationary observer (Hill):
f=f[vsoundvsoundvsource] =500[34034010]=515.15Hz

Doppler effect when observer (B) moves towards the stationary source (Hill):
f′′=f[vsound+vobservervsound] =515.15[340+20340]=545.45Hz
Now beats heard in the car B b=f′′fd=545.45514.2831Hz
