Solution

Bleaching powder (CaOCl2):

  1. It has a smell of chlorine due to the presence of chlorine constituents in it.
  2. It helps in the removal of the yellowness of the white clothes because of its bleaching action.

Chemical equation:

CaOH2(aq)+Cl2(g)CaOCl2(s)+H2O(l)

In the above reaction, chlorine (Cl2) undergoes the suspension of slaked lime (CaOH2) to form bleaching powder (CaOCl2).

Thus, the compound is bleaching powder.
