A circuit element shown in the figure contains a box is having either a capacitor or an inductor. The power factor of the circuit is 0.8, while current lags behind the voltage. Find the value of V100 where V volts is the source voltage. Assume box element to be ideal.

Given:-
Current in the circuit =1 A

VR=IR=80 V

VC=IXC=100 V

XC=VCI=100 Ω

Now, since current lags voltage, the box contains an inductor.

Power factor=0.8

RZ=45Z=5R4=100 Ω

Z=R2+(XLXC)2

|XLXC|=60 Ω

VX=I |XLXC|=(1×60)=60 V

V=V2R+V2X=802+602=100 V

V100=1
