A closed box is made up of wood which is 1 cm thick. The outer dimensions of the box is 5 cm ×4 cm ×7 cm. Find the volume of the wood used.

Given outer length =5 cm
Outer breadth =4 cm
Outer height =7 cm
Outer volume = length × breadth × height
=5×4×7=140cm3
Thickness of wooden box, w=1 cm
Inner length =l2w=52=3 cm
Inner breadth =b2w=42=2 cm
Inner height =h2w=72=5 cm
Inner volume =3×2×5=30cm3
Volume of wood used = outer volume inner volume
=14030=110cm3
