A club is buying boxes of candy bars to sell for a fund-raiser. If each box contains c candy bars, and each member sells x bars each day, how many boxes are needed to supply enough candy bars for 3c members to sell for 5 days?
Let y be the total number of boxes needed
Given that,
Each box carries c candy bars
∴ total number of candy bars needed = cy .... Cond(1)
Now,
No. of members = 3c
each member sells x bars per day
∴ 3c member sells 3cx bars per day
∴ In 5 days no. of bars sold = 3cx×5=15cx ..Cond(2)
Since Condition 1 and 2 are same,
cy=15cx
∴y=15x
No. of boxes = 15x
