Question

A coil of radius 10cm and resistance 40Ω has 1000 turns. It is placed with its plane vertical and its axis parallel to the magnetic meridian. The coil is connected to a galvanometer and is rotated about the vertical diameter through an angle of 180o. Find the charge which flows through the galvanometer if the horizontal component of the earth's magnetic field is B=3.0×105T

Solution

r=10cm=0.1m;R=40Ω,

N=1000,θ=180o,

BH=3×105T;ϕ=N(B.A)=NBAcos180o

=NBA=1000×3×105×π×1×102=3π×104

where dϕ=2NBA=6π×104weber

e=dϕdt=6π×104dt

i=6π×10440dt=4.71×105×dtdt=4.71×105C
