Question

A cubical box of side 2 m has a circular hole of radius 0.7 m on each of its four walls. Find the cost of painting the box at Rs. 10 per m2.

Open in App
Solution

Length of the side of the box (a) = 2 m

Hence, Total Surface Area of the box = 6a2

= 6×22

= 24 m2

Area of circular holes = Number of holes × Area of one circular hole = 4×πr2

= 4×22/7×/710×710

= 616100=6.16 m2

So, area to be painted

= 24 – 6.16

= 17.84 m2

Hence, cost of painting = 10 × 17.84

= Rs. 178.4
