It provides the energy required to carry out all the various metabolic life processes like breathing, digestion, excretion, etc. Carbohydrates and fats are the major energy-giving nutrients.
It is required for the growth and development of the body cells. Proteins and minerals are used in the biosynthesis of body constituents like skin, blood, etc.
