Solution

Each Part: 2 Marks

(a) When dilute nitric acid reacts with metals, in addition to hydrogen (only with Mg and Mn), N2O, NO, NO2 and NH3 are produced. This is because nitric acid is not only an acid but also an oxidising agent.

(b) 3CuCopper+8HNO3Nitric acid (Dilute)3Cu(NO3)2Copper nitrate+2NONitric oxide+4H2O
