A diver descends 20 feet in the water from the boat at the surface of the lake. He then rose 12 feet and descends another 18 feet. At this point, what is his depth in water?
26
Let the initial position of the diver be 0.
Consider ascending as '+' and descending as '-'
Now, the diver descends 20 feet in the water which can be given as -20 feet.
Then he rose 12 feet i.e. +12 feet and
he descends another 18 feet i.e. -18 feet.
Now his depth in water = final position
= (-20 +12 -18) feet
= - 26 feet
Therefore, the man is now at 26 feet depth in water.
